Going on your first solo trip can be super nerve-wracking and overwhelming. I mean, that’s a HUGE deal – taking on a brand-new city by yourself! Talk about taking risks. So, to ease some of those first-time jitters, it’s best to pick a destination that’s inviting & welcoming to solo travelers. And wow – are there a lot! However, today, I’m only sharing five of the best cities to travel alone for first-time solo travelers.
New York
Starting at the top of the list is New York, NY. With the generous amount of exciting things to do, this lively city seems as if it’s designed for solo travelers. The city is extremely easy to navigate, making visiting tourist destinations a breeze. However, it can be overwhelming at first, especially for first-time visitors because of the cities’ size. So try to take it easy the first day and plan how you want to enjoy the city.
In New York, a solo traveler can expect delicious eateries, endless shopping adventures, numerous free attractions, and a thriving night scene. New York has something for everyone and is a must when traveling solo for the first time.

Singapore
Singapore, the magical city, has to be added to the list of top contenders for solo travelers! The stunning architecture and sights are enough to make anyone want to visit. But even more, Singapore has some of the most amazing eateries in the world. With all their restaurants and food festivals, there are plenty of opportunities to dine on Singapore’s finest.
Along with the attractions and yummy food, the city is also a shopaholic’s dream! Orchard Road has shops and bars for miles. So make sure to leave a little extra room in your suitcase for souvenirs when traveling here.

Paris
The city of love ❤ Paris is well known for its art, fashion, cuisine, and rich history. Like most of its neighboring cities, Paris is famous for its architecture and has numerous landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre, that will have you feeling like you’re starring in a movie. Of course, these stunning pieces of art make a great spot for photos too!
And speaking of photos, you need a bomb outfit to match the caliber of these gorgeous landmarks. If you find yourself lacking in this area, never fear because Paris remains, till this day, the capital of fashion. So there are plenty of opportunities to update your wardrobe while staying in this city!
Thailand
If you’re looking for more sun on your solo trip, Thailand is the place to be! Thailand is one of the best countries to island-hop. The main island hopping hubs are Phuket, Krabi, Koh Phi Phi, and Koh Lipe. Aside from lying on the beach & swimming in the clear waters, the cuisine and historical sites throughout the country make it well worth the visit. Although Thailand has over 40,000 temples, some of the most popular include The Blue Temple, The Tiger Cave Temple, The Silver Temple, and Wat Arun.
Barcelona
Hailing in northern Spain, Barcelona is an excellent choice for first-time solo travelers. The city offers the best of both worlds: the beach and the mountains. Few towns have both, so be sure to take advantage of this luxury. And because Barcelona sits on the Mediterranean coastline, the vibrant city is right next to the beach, so you don’t have to travel far to enjoy the city life.
Barcelona is also known for its insane night scene. This city has countless bars and clubs littered in many neighborhoods, each with its charm. However, the El Raval neighborhood has some of the best nightlife in the city, making it the go-to spot for bar hopping!
These five destinations, New York, Singapore, Paris, Thailand, and Barcelona, are some of the best destinations for first-time solo travelers to visit. While these are some of my favorites, many other areas would make a great first solo trip. I hope this post inspires you when planning your solo trip!
