I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with road trips. Some car rides feel like the time of your life, and others make you wish you stayed home. But now I’ve learned these simple tips on how to survive a road trip, and I am never going back!

Tips on How to Survive a Road Trip

Make sure that you’re in the proper mindset.

Road trips are full of fun and excitement, but they can also be long and highly draining. And what started as a great trip can quickly turn into a nightmare. So, to survive a road trip minus the lousy attitude, make sure you’ve in the proper mindset for the hours ahead on the road.

Now how does this help? When I evaluate my expectations for any trip, I am way less stressed if something goes off course. Preparing my mindset beforehand allows me to remain patient with myself & others, which makes for a happier and smoother trip all around.

Pack Snacks

Everyone feels much better with some food in their belly, and the opposite is true as well.  I KNOW I’m a grouch when I haven’t eaten, so snacks are essential for surviving a road trip. Bringing snacks will temporarily satisfy your hunger and prevent the grouchy attitude from appearing.

My favorite snacks to bring are honey barbeque chips, a candy bar, and of course, water to hydrate! Let me know in the comments below what your favorite road trip snacks are.

Create a Road Trip Playlist

Create a Road Trip Playlist

I’ve almost convinced that I live in a musical because music simply makes everything better. That and I find myself randomly breaking out into song and dance all the time. 😂

But really – is it a road trip if you don’t create a playlist just for the occasion?! No, surely not. Set the tone for the ride by selecting the perfect tunes. And remember, DJing in the car is a privilege, so take it seriously! (Joking..)

Plan Rest Stops

I grew up with a dad who never liked stopping on road trips. If he could make it in one go, he was doing it. However, that doesn’t make for a comfortable ride. Therefore, to make the trip enjoyable for all passengers, plan out rest stops! Allow everyone time to stretch their legs and take a breather.

Now, for those of you eager to hit the road, these stops can be as short you want. I only stop when necessary, and it takes 15 minutes at most. These mini stops will prove to be a lifesaver when the drive gets to be a bit much.

Bring some entertainment

Naturally, road trips vary in length, but you can expect to spend a lot of time in the car. And in case you won’t be chatting the whole time, it’s best to bring some entertainment along with you. Download some movies, pack a book, bring a sketchbook, or anything that might ease potential boredom.

Remember, some entertainment requires accessories like chargers & headphones, so don’t forget to pack those as well.

As we all know, road trips can be tedious, but you can survive any road trip with the proper preparation! While we can’t plan for the unexpected, we can make sure we feel our best when the unexpected happens. Try out these tips and let me know which ones you liked most!
