How to get Inspired to travel?
Before we get into potential places to visit, I want to first talk about how to actually get inspired to travel. There are numerous ways and resources to pull inspiration to get you thrilled about seeing another part of the world. So, when all else fails, and you can’t seem to muster up that excitement, try out these tips below:
- Create a Pinterest board.
Creating a travel destination inspiration Pinterest board will help you get clear on where you actually want to go. Or, if you’re like me, it’ll give you a hundred more locations to add to the bucket list…
- Explore some travel pages on Instagram.
Another great way to get inspired is to explore the travel pages on Instagram. I’m sure you’ve seen them. If you haven’t, sit back and get ready because you’re in for a ride! The photos and videos make you feel like you are right there, making you want to go even more.
- Watch your favorite travel vloggers on Youtube 〈or research some if you don’t have one〉.
I love travel vloggers! I especially love them because they make traveling come to life in the most beautiful way. I highly suggest this type of inspiration for first-time travelers (and really anyone, because they just that are amazing).
- Read some posts from your favorite travel bloggers.
Much like the travel vloggers, travel bloggers have a way of making their travel experiences pop off the page and get you excited about experiencing those adventures yourself.
- Do some travel research.
And the last tip on how to get travel inspiration is to do your own research about potential places you would like to visit. This is an enjoyable and low-pressure way to explore the possibilities before committing to one destination.
Each of these activities is a fun way to get inspired and can include as many people as you want. So, remember to have fun with it!

Travel Destination Inspiration Ideas
Naples, Italy
Naples, Italy, is one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back to roughly 4,000 years ago. For history buffs, if you’re looking for history, this city has loads of it. Naples has seen many rulers through the centuries, first established by the Greeks. Then taken over by the Romans and many others.
Sadly, Naples has seen more than its fair share of issues. Cholera epidemics, Nazi possession, fascism, and much more.
Although this city has had an extremely troubled past, it is now a location that over a million travelers visit every year.
Things to do in Naples, Italy:
- Climb up Mount Vesuvius.
- Visit the ruins of Pompeii.
- Explore the San Gennaro Catacombs.
- Venture out to the Castel dell’Ovo.
- Learn more about Naples’s origins at the Naples National Archaeological Museum.
Marseille, France
Welcome to Marseille!
This city, though often overlooked, is a vibrant destination in the South of France with a mix of African and European cultures. Although, as a port city, Marseille has always had influence by various cultures. However, as the closest major ports are in Africa, they have influenced Marseille most. Today, Marseille is the second-largest city and busiest port in France.
With the city sitting on the Mediterranean sea, it’s needless to say that they have gorgeous beaches. However, unlike the fancier locations like Nice, the stunning beaches in Marseille have a chill and relaxing vibe that’s ideal for those looking for a quiet vacation.
In addition, the dining scene here is fantastic! The cuisine reflects Africa’s heavy influence on the city with a bit of a French twist. One of Marseille’s most popular and traditional dishes is bouillabaisse. This consists of various seafood options like fish, shrimp, mussels, etc., and is definitely worth tasting.
All in all, Marseille is an excellent location to have an authentic French experience, and it’s a must-visit destination, especially if you’ve never been before.
Things to do in Marseille, France:
- See how large the Old Port is.
- Take a train up to the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde. 〈Trust me, you will want to ride the train instead of climbing up the hill.〉
- Visit the MuCEM, a museum that sits right on Marseille’s waterfront.
- Go for a walk along the Boulevard Longchamp.

Sintra, Portugal
Next on the list is Sintra, Portugal. Sintra is a town located in the Lisbon District in Portugal, and my, oh my, is it beautiful. This town has some of the most picturesque areas in Portugal and makes you feel like you’ve just stepped into a fairytale.
Sintra is full of history, and often why many people visit. Colorful palaces and castles, old Moorish ruins, and stunning scenery all in one location. The medieval remains of the Castelo dos Mouros and the Convent of the Capuchos were named by UNESCO as the Cultural Landscape of Sintra World Heritage site.
All of this, and it’s only 30-minutes from Lisbon! There are several ways to get to Sintra: car 〈parking is hard to find sometimes〉, train 〈40-minute train ride from Lisbon〉, or bus.
You’re in for a fun-filled day, I can tell you that much. I recommend wearing your best walking shoes, though. But you won’t regret visiting Sintra! It’s easily the best day trip you’ll ever take.
Things to do in Sintra:
- Visit the Palace of Pena.
- Try out some of Sintra’s tasty treats like queijada and a travesseiro.
- Go on a walking tour around the old center of Sintra.
- Explore the Palace of Sintra.
- Climb the Castle of the Moors.
Granada, Spain
Coming to you from the south of Spain is Granada. The city where the locals treat you like family, free tapas when you buy a drink, fantastic architecture, and street art – that’s what Granada is.
This small town has all of that, and it also has mountains AND the beach. So you can literally go skiing and swim on the beach all on the same day! Insane. And that’s just one of the unique features Granada has to offer.
This city also has some of the best scenery around. If you know me at all, I’m a sucker for sunsets. And Granada has some of the best views for watching the sun go down. Some areas to watch said sunset include the Mirador de San Nicolás and Sacromonte Abbey. The views are definitely worth spending an evening watching.
Like Sintra, Granada is also home to a UNESCO world heritage site. Alhambra is a fortified palace of the Moorish monarchs of Granada. It is one of the most famous and best-preserved monuments of Islamic architecture. History buffs will be genuinely astonished at the insight into the ancient Islamic world.
Things to do in Granada, Spain:
- Visit the Alhambra.
- Explore the Granada Cathedral.
- Watch the sun go down at Mirador de San Nicolas.
- Eat some delicious tapas.
Faroe Islands
Although this final destination is not in Europe, it is most certainly worth mentioning. Somewhere between Norway and Iceland sits the Faroe Islands. Although a little ways off, the Faroe Islands are part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
There is truly no place like the Faroe Islands. They will take your breath away and have you wanting to explore more. Gorgeous view after gorgeous view with green mountains, magical waterfalls, and beautiful villages.
And unlike the neighboring areas, you don’t have to worry about huge crowds of tourists everywhere, which means you get to soak up all this beauty in peace. In fact, you’re more likely to run into sheep than you are people.
In addition, if you happen to be in the Islands around September to March, you can see the Northern Lights. Here you can witness something that only occurs in a handful of spots.
Without a doubt, the Faroe Islands are for travelers searching for a unique and adventurous destination.
Things to do in the Faroe Islands:
- Visit the Island of Mykines and its puffin colony.
- Hike to the Lake of SØRVÁGSVATN, VÁGAR.
- Check out the Mulafossur Waterfall.
- Dine at KOKS.
I hope these destinations have inspired you to get your travel on! Whether you try out these locations or go somewhere of your own choosing, you’re bound to have a good time. Such a good time you won’t want to come back!
Safe travels.
