Unique Things to Do in Paris
Go on a Scavenger Hunt for the 5 Statues of Liberty
Did you know there are 5 Statues of Liberty in Paris? And they’re all spread out in different spots of the city. So, one of the first non touristy things to do in Paris is to embark on a scavenger hunt to find all the Statues of Liberty.
While the statues aren’t as big as the one in New York, they all represent the friendship between the U.S. & France.
You can find them at each of these locations:
- Ile aux Cygnes
- Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens)
- Inside the Musée d’Orsay
- Place d’Alma: in the square, there is a replica of the Flame of Liberty.
- Just outside the entrance of the Musée des Arts et Métiers
Walk through the Catacombs
Visiting the catacombs has to be one of the top crazy things to do in France. While it is a more well-known (and admittedly disturbing) activity, it certainly holds a lot of history.
The ossuary contains the remains of over 6 million people, all underground. Geez, am I right?
However, as crazy as it sounds, the catacombs were built initially due to concerning health problems related to the city’s cemeteries.
Make sure to visit early in the morning or a little before they close to avoid the crowds.
Bask in the Paris’s Skyline on a Rooftop Bar
Paris’s skyline is one of the prettiest in the world, and one of the best ways to see it is on a rooftop bar. Plus, you can enjoy a nice cocktail with the view.
Best Paris Rooftop Bars with a View:
- ROOF by Madame Rêve
- Rooftop Galeries Lafayette
- Bar Le Perchoir
- L’Oiseau Blanc

Get Lost in a Neighborhood Market
French markets are quite the experience, full of delicious food, handmade arts & crafts, and lots of interesting people. And there are markets for just about everything, seafood, flowers, and more. These neighborhood markets are a fantastic way to spend your afternoon, not to mention you’ll feel just like a local!
Here are some of the best Paris markets to visit:
- Marche d’Aligre
- Marche Bastille (Only open on Sundays & Thursdays)
- Marche Monge
- Le Marche Saint-Germain
- Le Marche de Saint-Pierre
Find a Park & Have a Picnic
What better way to enjoy a nice day in Paris than having a fancy picnic in the park? Grab some items at the market, like cheese, chocolate, fruit, and maybe some wine for the occasion.
Some of my favorite Paris treats to pack are a couple baguettes, french cheese, fruits & veggies like strawberries & tomatoes, and some yummy chocolate croissants.
Here are the top Paris spots to have a picnic:
- Jardin du Luxembourg
- Parc Montsouris
- Buttes Chaumont
- Bois de Vincennes (You can also rent a rowboat on the lakes by the park!)
- Places des Vosges
Hop on a Cruise on the Seine River
While this activity is a bit more touristy, it can’t be missed. Cruising on the Seine River is an excellent way to see the city because you get to see many famous sites in one go.
So, if it’s your first time visiting Paris, I highly recommend it! Plus, it’s super affordable, and you can add lunch or dinner too!
Take a Ballroom Dancing Class
What is more romantic than ballroom dancing in Paris? Not much, I’ll tell you that.
Taking a ballroom dancing class is definitely on the list of non touristy things to do in Paris. And it’s a great way to meet locals! So, grab your special someone and spend the night waltzing away.
But if you’re not into dancing, try a cooking class on how to make macarons or some other French delicacy.

Explore the Free Paris Street Art
Paris has street art galore, and it’s good. And FREE.
Exploring the fantastic local art is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. You also get a little glimpse of the culture & vibe of each neighborhood. So, grab some macarons or eclairs and enjoy the work of the talented local artists.
Best Paris Spots for Street Art:
- 13th Arrondissement
- The District of La Villette
- The District of Oberkampf
- The District of Belleville
- The Paris Center
Catch the Sunset at Montemarte
One of the best things to do in Paris is to catch the sunset at the top of Montemarte, one of the most unique neighborhoods in Paris. The large hill of Montemarte is full of cobblestone streets, vintage stores, and a rich history.
As one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city, there is much to see & do. You can’t miss it!
Open a Bottle of Wine on the Canal St Martin
End the day with a nice bottle of wine while taking in the views of the Canal St Martin. This also makes for a super fun romantic evening with your partner.
Canal St Martin stretches almost 3 miles along the canal, perfect for a nighttime (or daytime) stroll. Or you can shop in the cute boutiques or stop for a little bite to eat.
No matter what you decide to do during your trip to Paris, you will surely have a phenomenal experience.
Wishing you safe & happy travels.
